On 12th June, the European Parliament adopted the revision of the EASA basic regulation (EC No. 216/2008). The regulation will for the first time, inter alia, introduce “essential safety requirements” for ground handling.
The text has already been agreed with member states last winter and the next step is for the Council to rubber stamp the text before it will be published in the Official Journal later in the year.
It is early days and there will be significant stakeholder engagement prior to implementation.
